STL Analysis Tool

Inspect geometry, dimensions, volume, and analysis signals for production-ready STL files.

Mesh measurement & diagnostics

Analyze an STL file online — free, in your browser

Upload an STL or OBJ mesh and iamRapid's analysis engine measures the real geometry — triangle and welded vertex count, bounding-box dimensions in millimetres, volume (mm³ and cm³), surface area, the number of separate shells, and whether the model is watertight and manifold — then gives you a clear print-ready verdict. Everything runs locally in your browser; your model never leaves your device and there is no upload, no account and no file-size limit.

Current support: STL (binary & ASCII) and OBJ. For STEP, IGES, 3MF or other CAD formats, convert the file first and then run the analysis.

What does the STL analyzer measure?

STL file analysis inspects a 3D model's mesh and reports the real, measured geometry you need before 3D printing. iamRapid's free online analyzer reads your STL or OBJ entirely in your browser and computes the following directly from the mesh:

All values are computed from your actual mesh — nothing is estimated or simulated. The volume and area are integrated over every triangle, and watertightness is determined from the real edge topology.

How to analyze an STL file

  1. Upload your file using the dropzone above — drag in an STL or OBJ, or click to browse. The file is read locally in your browser.
  2. Read the measured stats — the tool instantly reports triangle and vertex counts, bounding-box dimensions, volume, surface area and the number of shells.
  3. Check the verdict — the watertight and manifold checks give a clear print-ready or needs-repair call.
  4. Inspect the 3D model — rotate the interactive preview to visually confirm the geometry.
  5. Take the next step — if errors are found, repair the STL automatically and re-analyze; if it's clean, get an instant 3D printing quote.

No signup or software installation required. The analyzer works directly in your browser on any device.

How do I know if my model is printable?

A 3D model is printable when its mesh is watertight (no holes or open edges), manifold (every edge shared by exactly two triangles) and has a real, positive volume. This analyzer reports all three directly, so a "print-ready" verdict means a slicer can turn the surface into a solid. If the tool flags open edges, non-manifold edges or a non-watertight mesh, the file needs repair first — you can fix most of these automatically with the STL repair tool and then run the analysis again to confirm.
